Designing a Modern Resume in Figma: A Fresh Approach to Stand Out

If you’re like me, you’ve probably grown tired of seeing the same old, uninspired resumes where candidates simply list their details without much thought to design. While the traditional approach might get the job done, it no longer meets the expectations of today's fast-paced digital world, where capturing attention is more challenging than ever.

This is why I decided to take a different approach and design a modern, visually appealing resume using Figma. This isn't just a resume—it's a user-friendly experience that engages the reader and seamlessly connects your paper resume with your digital world.

Why Modern Resumes Matter

In an age where people’s attention spans are shorter than ever, your resume has to work harder to stand out. Handing in a dull, text-heavy document isn’t going to cut it anymore. If I receive a plain resume made in a word processor with minimal formatting, I honestly won’t bother looking at it for too long.

That’s why I designed a resume that not only looks modern and clean but is also easy to scan. The goal is to make sure your skills and achievements shine through at a glance, without the clutter of outdated formatting styles.

Creating the Resume in Figma: Step-by-Step

1. Choosing a Layout That Flows

The layout is the backbone of any resume. I structured the resume to have clear sections for your introduction, skills, experience, education, and other relevant details. This helps guide the reader's eye naturally from one section to the next, ensuring nothing gets overlooked.

2. Incorporating Accessibility and Convenience

One of the highlights of this resume design is its focus on accessibility. The print-ready format ensures that your resume looks just as impressive on paper as it does on a screen. It's also designed to be easily customizable, so you can adjust the colors, fonts, and layout to match your personal style.

3. Adding a QR Code for a Digital Touch

What really sets this resume apart is the integrated QR code. This simple yet powerful addition bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds. When scanned, the QR code directs potential employers to a personalized webpage hosted on GitHub, which acts as your digital business card.

On this webpage, there’s a download button that allows users to download a VCF file directly to their phones. When they open this file, your contact information is automatically saved—no manual typing required! This two-click process saves time and makes connecting effortless.

About the QR Code Integration

The QR code on the first page of the resume redirects users to your digital business card webpage hosted on GitHub. This webpage provides a seamless way to share your contact information. Here’s a quick breakdown of how it works:

  • Download Button: The webpage includes a download button that directly saves a VCF file to the user's phone.
  • Easy Contact Saving: When the user clicks the downloaded VCF file, your contact information is automatically saved in their phone in just two clicks.
  • Versatility: You can use the same QR code on business cards or other branding materials to extend your reach.

And the best part? It’s 100% free to set up!

You can copy the GitHub repository and make edits through this link: GitHub Repository. Once the changes are done, you can host your webpage and generate the QR code to include it in your resume.

For a detailed guide on hosting a webpage on GitHub, check out this resource: How to Host a Website on GitHub for Free.

Using Color to Make a Statement

The resume package includes two design variations, each available in two distinct color palettes that you can customize. The chosen colors are both calming and professional, designed to make your resume stand out without being overly flashy. But feel free to explore and tweak the colors to find what best reflects your personality or matches your industry.

How Banking and UPI Apps Use Behavioural Economics to Encourage Spending: A Journey into the Hidden Side of Finance

Header Image for blog   (toc) #title=(Table of Content)  T(caps) oday, I want to take you on a journey to explore how banking and UPI (Unified Payments Interface) apps might be subtly influencing us to spend more through the principles of behavioural economics. But before we dive into that, let me share the story that inspired this post. Recently, I was working on a problem statement to prepare a case study for a shared wallet concept for PhonePe. The task seemed simple enough: design an app feature where users can add their family members or friends to a shared wallet. Everyone in that wallet could then pay through it, view, and manage their expenses effectively—all while reducing the hassle of manual calculations and stress. As someone living in a remote area, I understand how stressful it can be to manage money efficiently, especially when dealing with everyday expenses. I often use apps like money managers, Split wise, or even WhatsApp groups to record my bills, hoping tha...
